Power Mobility Devices - Revised Coding Guidelines

The definitions of Multiple Power Options power wheelchairs (K0841-K0843, K0861-K0864, K0884-K0886, and K0891) in the Power Mobility Devices Policy Article are being revised. Currently the definitions say that the codes include an expandable controller. The definitions are being changed to say that a non-expandable controller is standard but that it can be upgraded to an expandable controller. This change is effective for claims with dates of service on or after November 15, 2006.

For dates of service from 11/15/06 to 12/31/06, code E2399 (not otherwise classified interface, includes all related electronics and any type mounting hardware) would be used to bill for an upgrade to an expandable controller. A new code, E2377, has been established for claims with dates of service on or after January 1, 2007.

E2377 Power wheelchair accessory, expandable controller, including all related electronics and mounting hardware, upgrade provided at initial issue.

These changes will be incorporated in a future revision of the Power Mobility Devices and Wheelchair Options and Accessories Policy Articles.
